Blog-tember #13 and #14 – life moodboard and books!

So I couldn’t make it yesterday ;) We went to a family lunch yesterday and stayed there until late, so here I am with two prompts on this Monday!

Prompt #13: Create a collage or inspiration/mood board for this season in your life.

Life mood board - by nachtschwinge

Kind of a fun mix, isn’t it?  ;)

We have a photo studio, because I’m constantly thinking about photography (not doing it unfortunately) and hoping to finish my studio soon!

Then there’s a picture of the Harry Potter Studio Tour, because I’m always planning on where to go next and it also stands for living my nerdy side ;)

Scrapbooking has to be in this board, too, because my desk is usually a mess because of it :)

Next is a picture of a nursery, since I’m thinking a lot about getting pregnant and styling the spare room.

And because there’s no baby in sight yet, I’m spoiling our cats! So they needed to be here, too! <3

Lastly, there’s the “I can’t people today.” quote. It stands for trying to find myself. I recently heard about the 16 personality types, found out which I am and reading about it was an eye opener for me. I always felt so different and strange and now I start to know why. That’s just great! More on this topic in a later post maybe ;)

Prompt #14: The 5 books that have impacted your life the most.

You probably know by now that I’m a huge bookworm! I can’t remember a time when I didn’t like to read and I’d love to know how many books I’ve read in my life til now ;)

Anyway, there are some books/stories/plays that are special to me, some that I hold dear to my heart, here come 5 of them:

Books that changed my life - by nachtschwinge

Sigh. Only looking at these brings back so many memories :) Love’em!

1. The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood

I had a German version of these, of course. Or better German versions, because I read everything I could my hands on about Robin Hood! He’s been my childhood hero, I wanted to be Maid Marian and live in the woods *lol* Loved the Disney movie as a child, kind of liked the Kevin Costner one, found “Men in Tights” hilarious and fell deep in love again with the latest movie starring Russell Crowe! <3 To me Robin Hood as always been about freedom, fairness, equality, love and friendship. Forever in my heart :)

2. The Complete Works of William Shakespeare

I fell in love with theatre and Shakespeare in Highschool (well, we in our system it’s the ‘Gymnasium’), when one of my favourite teachers (my Latin and Old Greek teacher Prof. Fassler) asked us if we wanted to join the drama group of our school. Soon I putting all my heart and spare time into it, which ultimately resulted in me playing the ‘Beatrice’ in ‘Much Ado About Nothing’. Shakespeare’s way of writing a witty conversation just drew me in and I loved every minute on stage :) To this day, everytime I watch a play or musical, I have an inner urge to go up on stage and play again. Which is so funny, because I’m a rather introverted person really! Anyway, so ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ is totally my fave (also love the movie adaption with Denzel Washington, Emma Thompson and Keanu Reeves!), but I love them all! Can’t wait to read all of them in the original version, since I found it at the fleamarket last Saturday <3

3. The Harry Potter series

Yes, I can’t deny that I just love these books! Definitely one of my fandoms *lol* Read them in the English original while studying in Vienna (I was rather late to the party). They made commuting much more interesting ;) Don’t really know what I like most about these, probably the well written characters, the moral of the stories and how the obviously weak ones turn out to be history changing. :) Always wan intrigued by magic when I was younger, dabbling in witchcraft a bit (still would say I’m mostly pagan) and also loving stories of magical creatures.

4. The stories of Sherlock Holmes

What can I say? Crime and detective stories are probably the most read genre in my life :) I’ve read everything from Miss Marple to ‘The Cat Who..’ to more modern books like the stories of ‘Berg’ and ‘Thal’ by Bela Bolten… Love me some suspense and guessing who the murderer was and what it’s all about! So Sherlock Holmes isn’t really a surprise.. I mean, it’s the most famous detective ever! But it’s not only about the books, it’s also about the movies (Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law!) and, of course, my beloved BBC TV show ‘Sherlock’ <3 It’s just so cool to compare the original stories to the show’s storylines and guess what they made of it! :)

5. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

The very first Coelho book I read – I’ve read them all by now – and that I instantly felt deeply connected with. To me it’s a combination of a fairy tale and a true story, the story of the sherperd boy Santiago, who dreams about about a treasure far away and decides to pursue that dream. On his course he finds what he’s always been looking for in a different shape as expected.. I adore the writing, the poetry behind Coelho’s words and the morals of the story. There’s a deeper meaning behind all of his books and that’s a thing I cherish.

Wow, now that’s been a lot of information ;) Hope to find time to read about other’s life changing books, too!

Blog-tember #11 – TGIF!

Yes, thank God it’s Friday!! So today’s prompt is perfectly fitting: It’s a Friday night and you decide to stay in. What do you do?

I guess the prompt is about a usual Friday night, but I’ll give it a twist and describe a usual one (because I seldom go out on Fridays), as well as today’s!! ;)

So usually on Fridays I leave work early, like 2pm, and go shopping for the weekend’s groceries. When I come home, I put away everything and probably spend some time online, reading blogs or watching YouTube.

When my hubby calls and tells me he’s gonna be home soon, I start to cook. Weekends, including Fridays, are for “fancy” cooking in my house. Meaning: preparing and cooking most often takes me an hour or more. My hubby and I usually have dinner together and hang out on the couch a bit after that.

Friday nights - by nachtschwinge

When the real evening part starts, there are mostly three options:

-either I spend the night cuddled up on the couch with my hubs, watching some movie (and yes, that’s “The Naked Truth” – love this movie!!!)

– or I get in the bathtub and read until the water is icecold *lol*

– or I’m getting creative scrapping the evening away!

TODAY though is a whole different story… it’s beginner’s week at the university I work at, which means I have to teach a lot of groups how to use our systems. Now on Friday, when I usually leave around 2pm, there are groups to be taught in the afternoon (early evening), too.. Result: I just came home around 6:30pm, hoarse and tired as fuck.

I didn’t go shopping for groceries and there won’t be any fancy dinner today. Hubs is going to get some takeaway food (hopefully!!!) and I’ll probably spend the evening on the couch trying to keep my eyes open during the main movie..whereas I should be scrapping with the super awesome October kit of the Scrapbook Werkstatt. But I think, I’m just too worn out today.

So what about you? Any Friday routine?

Blog-tember #10 – on my bucket list…

No, I didn’t forget about yesterday’s prompt, BUT when I thought about it, this prompt got so big in my head, meaning so much to me, that I decided it would need more time to write a proper letter! So I’ll be handing in this post later, probably this weekend or so.. ;)

Anyway, so here comes today’s prompt: 10 items off your bucket list.

I plan on doing a ’33 before 33′ list soon, but I guess 10 items are a good start :D So these 10 I hope to accomplish within the next year!

On my bucket list - by nachtschwinge

  • visit London (especially visit Baker Street and do the Harry Potter Studio Tour)
  • learn how to drive (been on my bucket list forever..)
  • get pregnant :D
  • host a big family dinner at our home
  • do a boudoir selfportrait shoot
  • finish my studio
  • set up the first big Christmas tree in our home
  • learn how to really use Lightroom (mostly playing around right now and using presets)
  • do one more weekend city trip with my hubby (thinking Dublin, Rome, Amsterdam,..)
  • throw a garden party for my workmates (means there needs to be a proper garden and no field, of course)

What about you? What’s on your list??

Blog-tember #8 – my season :)

Prompt of the day: Tell us about your favorite season. Why is it your favorite and what does it say about you?

As long as I can think of, I used to say Christmas was my most loved season! I just love the wintery calmness, the present-shopping, the markets and glogg, setting up the tree, getting together with all my loved ones, feasting (oh so much food….), it!

But since the magic is somehow gone (I mean, I’mno child anymore) AND there’s lately never snow at this time of the year – which I hate!! Christmas is all about snow!! – I find myself more and more in love with my second favourite season, which is summer! :)

I mean, I’m a summer child, born in the midst of August. I love the sun, the warmer weather (yes, this summer has been a little too hot, but it’s been great still!), the colours…

It’s time for vacation, no stress at the office, breaks on the terrace, ice after lunch, barbecues all the way,…

The days are wonderfully long, you can sit outside in the evenings, go swimming and on picnics,…..

It’s when I feel most alive, when I take the most pictures, but also feel the most creative :)

What’s your favourite season? ;)

Blog-tember #6 – fashion!

Prompt of the day: Share your style. What fashion trends do you love, frequent, or avoid?

Fashion inspiration board - by nachtschwinge1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8

That’s pretty much how I’d like to be dressed – casual chic, I’d say, with a hint of humour/weirdness (And yes, that’s totally Princess Kate! Love her style!!). And my wardrobe has a lot of these things:

  • Maxi skirts and dresses – love ’em!! <3 Though this summer has been so hot, I’ve been living in short dresses, it seems..
  • Jeans – my no.1 pants choice, probably wearing it more than 80% of the time, when it’s colder
  • Shirts with cool/funny/nerdy quotes – I need more fandom shirts in my life!!
  • Blazers and cardigans – I have way too many of these, but they always fit and I mostly dress onion-style (layers!), so that’s perfect!
  • Handbags and scarfs – ok, I have to admit, I cannot pass a beautiful purse or scarf..just cannot…That’s my personal fetish, maybe because I HATE buying shoes *lol*
  • Dots and stripes
  • Neutral colours (black, grey, brown), as well as navy, olive, mint, coral and red
  • costume jewelry (again, I have too much, but I love a nice pair of earrings or a statement necklace!)
  • Hats – I think they ae SO cool, but I don’t wear them much, because they just draw a little too much attention and since I don’t feel very confident about myself, that’s not really a things I want right now..

I’ve been shopping recently (a layout about it is in the making) and noticed that I didn’t just buy any stuff, but I bought outfits. Things that can be combined and swapped and I think that’s pretty awesome!

For the colder season I’m still in need of a new black coat, a warm jumper and maybe like one more pair of pants..we’ll see.. My Mum said she wants us to do a little shopping together soon (which I love because we’re both really honest with each other, what’s fitting and what’s just not..), so there’s a chance I’ll find these things :)

Hope you had a nice weekend! My Mum came over today to cook and spend a little time together, which was awesome <3
See you tomorrow!
xoxo Sandra
